SWS - BIO

SWS is a berlin-based sound and label combining a great bandwidth of mostly caribbean music. Dancehall, soca and reggaeton are mixed with roots reggae, rocksteady, ska and certain hip hop in a creative and danceable way. Fully loaded with own remixes, productions and specials, it guarantees first class musical entertainment.

The sound was founded in 2003 and consists of Selector Sebastian, MC/Selector Dawee, Selectress Ziala and Selector Count Shortleg. Since then the team soundtracked various parties in different cities like Hamburg (Germany), Dresden (Germany), Tel Aviv (Israel), New York City (USA), Linz (Austria), Munich (Germany), Warsaw (Poland), Bern (Switzerland), Mannheim (Germany), Zurich (Switzerland), Bielefeld (Germany), Wiesbaden (Germany), Bremen (Germany), Leipzig (Germany) and of course in its hometown Berlin (Germany).

The crew played shows with artists like Manu Chao, Tippa Irie, Top Cat, Beenie Man, VolkanikMan, Nosliw just to name a few and sounds like Supersonic Sound, Pow Pow, LP International, Sentinel, Soundquake and many more.

SWS became well known in 2004 for its Reggaeton Mixtape "Reggae Ritmo Latino" which was the first Reggaeton Mixtape in Germany. From that time on the sound was invited to several Radio shows be it in German local radio stations or in online radios. 2005 SWS started its own online radio show called "Bass Invaders".

The sound is also famous for its high-quality mixtapes with a lot of remixes and specials.

In 2005 Selecta Dawee won the SoulForce mixtape competition with his "Get ready - Rocksteady" mix which was (like the "Reggae Ritmo Latino" tape) reviewed in the German reggae magazine "Riddim". This mix was the first part of the SWS Reggae History Mix series. The second mix called "Still Rockin Steady" followed in December 2006 and was another great success! At the same time, Selecta Sebastian released the early digital dancehall tape "Still Hot Dis Year".

In 2006 SWS also got attention for its free downloadable pre-release Dancehall Mixes including "Gangsta 4 Life Mix 2k6", "Get Cross Mix 2k6" and "We Ah Area Leader Mix 2k6" by Selecta Dawee. The highly praised "SWS Jiggy-Jiggy Mix" series was continued in 2007, 2008 and 2009 with the release of the "From Dem Dis" Mix 2k7, "Friday Freakout" Mixes 1-3 and the mixes "Street Dance", "When We Buss It" 2k9 and "EURO SWAGGA MIXX 2010".

Besides its selecting and mixing SWS is also a producing label. In February 2006 the Ritmo Latino riddim was released on 12inch. It is the first German reggaeton riddim and features artists like Daddy Freddy, Tolga or the very talented local artist VolkanikMan.

In December 2006 the notorious Crazy Night Riddim hit the streets. This musical journey into the early 90ies dancehall era featured lots of the most influentual artists from that period.

In 2009 not less than 3 SWS productions were released on the Sound With Soul label. The ep Lets Go Have A Party by Mr. Glamarus with several remixes, the carnival tune Einmal im Jahr by german reggae star Ronny Trettmann and the Love Again Riddim with Chaka Demus & Pliers, Red Fox & Screechy Dan, Burro Banton & Mr. Glamarus and others.

In june 2010 the EURO SWAGGA riddim set a new level for dancehall productions. Artists like Konshens, Stein, Wasp, Mr. Glamarus, Mr. G, Ward 21 and many more delivered extraordinary tunes, each on a different riddim version which makes this highly customized riddim almost sound like a number of discrete produced songs.

The same year SWS won the first clash in Berlin in years against Cobra Sound and Timeless Sound and took the War Is In The Air 2010 trophy.

Despite of working hard outside the club and our ability to stand in a competition, SWS just mashes up every party − mixing all styles and influences by creating our own sound − the SOUND WITH SOUL!
